Why We Made It
A small first-bath ritual: two Honeysuckle & Oat Bath Soak sachets and a pocket tin of First Touch Butter, for a baby from the first bath. The same pairing as The First Bath Ritual, in a size to try.
For the first bath, when you're nervous and want to get it right.
Even when the bath is perfectly safe, it is easy to picture everything that could go wrong. The baby is small and slippery, and you have never done this before.
So the first bath gets small and simple. Warm water, one sachet poured in, the water turning a soft cloudy white. One hand under the head. Afterward, a small amount of butter from a pocket tin, spread across a back, a belly, two small hands.
A baby's skin barrier keeps maturing through the first year, so what touches it in the first baths is worth choosing.
What is inside
Two baths, and the butter to close them.
- Honeysuckle & Oat Bath Soak, two small sachets. Colloidal oatmeal, aloe, honeysuckle and mineral salts. No added fragrance and no essential oils. One sachet is one bath.
- First Touch Butter, pocket tin. EWG Verified. Made with 99% organic ingredients, including cocoa butter. No added fragrance. Suitable from birth.
The ritual
Fill the tub with warm water. Open one sachet and pour it in, then swirl the water with your hand until the powder disperses.
Lower your baby in with one hand under the head and neck, and stay with your baby the whole time. The water does the work, so your hands can simply hold.
Lift your baby out and pat dry, leaving the skin slightly damp.
Then the butter. A small amount is enough. It softens on contact with skin and moves easily across the back, the belly, the legs, the cheeks and chin where drool gathers, and the hands. Go slowly. The pace is part of it.
The second sachet is for the next bath, done in the same order. Repeating the sequence is what turns two baths into a ritual. Or keep one for yourself: the same soak works as a foot soak at the end of the day, or a bath of your own.
What you will notice
The water feels soft. The butter takes a minute to sink in and leaves a satin finish.
Some baths your baby settles. Some days they don't. The sequence stays the same either way, and that sameness is what your baby learns to recognize.
And for your baby
The soak and the butter carry no added fragrance. What your baby meets in these first baths is warm water, the faint natural scent of cocoa butter, and underneath it, you: your hands, your skin, the same order each time.
Why these two belong together
The soak is the quieter of our botanical soaks. The butter is the one made for the newest skin. Together they hold the bath and the minute after it, in the same simple order.
When two baths have shown you the sequence
The First Bath Ritual holds the full-size soak, the full-size First Touch Butter, and a konjac sponge, a single-ingredient sponge that softens in warm water and moves across skin without friction. See The First Bath Ritual
