The First 40 Days

Across cultures, the first weeks after birth were treated as a time apart. A mother was kept warm, fed, held close to her baby and cared for while she learned the shape of this new life.

Before birth, your baby knew warmth, movement, your heartbeat and the sound of your voice. After birth, those familiar sensations still matter. Warm water, steady touch, your natural scent and the repetition of small care rituals become part of the world your baby is beginning to recognize.

Traditions such as zuò yuè zi in China, sūtika paricharya in India,šestonedelie in Slovakia and la cuarentena in Latin America all understood something we have largely lost: the mother needs tending too. The First 40 Days Ritual brings a small part of that wisdom into modern motherhood, with warmth, nourishment and sensory care designed for both of you.

About this formula

Let Care Come Toward You

The first forty days ask a great deal from your body.
There is healing, feeding, bleeding, sweating, leaking, broken sleep, and a baby who needs to be close almost all the time. It is easy for every act of care to move outward.
This ritual brings some of it back.
Warm water. Gentle botanicals. Oils and butters chosen for skin that feels dry, tender, stretched, or simply unfamiliar after birth. A few minutes where your body is not only the place where everyone else’s needs are met.

Step 1

Begin With Warmth

Dissolve the Calendula & Chamomile Soak into warm bath water and give yourself time to receive the warmth and sensation before doing anything else.

Let the warmth reach your hips, belly, back, feet, and the parts of you that have been carrying the work of pregnancy, birth, and now motherhood.

Your body has been through something enormous. Let it receive something simple.

Step 2

Move Gently

Soften the konjac sponge fully in the water and move it slowly over your skin. There is no need for pressure.

Use the sponge over your face, neck, arms, chest, belly and let the movement stay gentle around the places that still feel tender or unfamiliar.

This is a body that has changed. You are allowed to meet it slowly.

Step 3

Come Back to Your Own Face

After the bath, press Tender Skin Serum into your face and neck. Your skin may feel different now. Drier. More sensitive. Tired in the way only broken sleep can make it look and feel.

Let the oil settle into the skin and give your own face the same careful attention you have been giving your baby.

Step 4

Care for the Body That Carried You Here

Massage Butter in Pink into your body and let it melt on contact. Follow the texture as it spreads and absorbs. Stay with the places that feel dry, stretched, tender, or simply good to touch.

Your attention has been pulled toward the baby over and over again. Let some of it return to your own skin for a few minutes.

Step 5

Keep Your Baby Close

Use First Touch Butter for your baby after bathing, at diaper changes or whenever their skin needs it. Let the whipped butter melt against the skin and keep your hands slow and familiar.

First Touch has no added fragrance, leaving room for the smell of your skin, your milk, your body, and the closeness your baby already knows.

The ritual ends where these first weeks so often do: with both of you cared for, together.

Why the Body Remembers

Long before your baby can focus on your face, they know you by your scent. Your hands are the other half. Slow, unhurried touch, in the same order each day, is how care becomes something your baby recognizes.

The butter's light cocoa scent belongs to those minutes. Over the weeks it arrives together with your hands, and your baby comes to know it as yours.

Architecture of Grace™

The first forty days are a threshold of their own. Your body is recovering, your senses are heightened, and your attention keeps moving toward the baby.

Architecture of Grace™ gives this season a structure you can return to through warmth, touch, texture and repetition. The same soak. The same serum. The same butters. The same order.

Over time, familiarity begins to do some of the work for you. Your body knows what comes next, and care becomes easier to receive even when the days still feel full.

Give Her Care Before She Has to Ask for It

The first forty days are often filled with attention for the baby while the mother quietly keeps going.

This ritual gives you a way to care for both of them from the beginning. First Touch keeps the baby’s care simple, with no added fragrance. The soak, serum and Butter in Pink bring warmth, softness and attention back to her body while it is still recovering from birth.

You are giving her something she does not have to research, assemble or explain. It is already thought through. A small structure of care waiting for her in the days when she is least likely to create one for herself.

Optional gift presentation and a handwritten note on a card can be added in your cart.

Konjac Sponge
One ingredient: konjac root. It softens fully in water and gives you one simple cleansing texture for both mother and baby.

2 Is the soak safe while I am still bleeding?

Yes. A small handful in a sitz bath or full bath, warm water, ten to fifteen minutes. It contains white willow bark, so if you are sensitive to aspirin, choose plain warm water. If your midwife or doctor has advised against baths, follow that.

3 Can my baby use the soak?

From month 2. Until then your baby's bath is plain warm water and the sponge. The soak contains lavender essential oil, which is why it waits.

4 Can I put the butters on my nipples?

Yes, any of our butters. After a feed, let your skin air dry, apply a little, and leave at least an hour before the next feed.

5 Can I use the soak in a peri bottle or on cool pads?

Yes. Dissolve a little in warm water for your peri bottle, or soak a maternity pad, chill it in the fridge, and place it where you want something cool.

Continue the Care

The first forty days deserve their own kind of care. They are also only the beginning.

Your baby will move through one threshold after another during the first year, and so will you. Feeding changes. Sleep changes. Your body changes again. Touch can feel different. The amount of stimulation you can hold changes. What nourishes you in these first weeks will not always be what you need later.

The First Year of Motherhood™ was created around that reality. Care changes with the stage you are in, with new rituals, sensory practices and support as your baby grows and your own motherhood takes shape.

The first forty days give you somewhere to begin. The First Year stays with what comes next.
